RESEARCH AND SPACE EXPLORATION

Alongside CNES and space agencies, alongside research laboratories and academic partners, we are developing many scientific activities in the space field. Planetary exploration, advanced space concepts and nanosatellites are illustrations of our current projects.

Our participation in Mars projects – the SEIS seismometer, an instrument on the Insight mission, and the Martian microphone on the Perseverance rover – bear witness to our high-level contributions with NASA and CNES.

The study of future concepts for autonomous missions to the asteroids and architecture for inhabited bases on the surface of the Moon or Mars are at the heart of our research teams’ activities. SACLAB Chair

The Space Advanced Concepts Chair, the product of the partnership between Airbus, Ariane Group and ISAE-SUPAERO with support from the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation, provides the opportunity to study future space concepts on the system level. The Space Advanced Concepts Laboratory (SACLab) hosts research and teaching projects on this subject of the future.












This laboratory at ISAE-SUPAERO’s Department of Aerospace Vehicle Design and Control (DCAS) employs a wide variety of fields of expertise such as system architecture and engineering, mission analysis and optimization, human factors and robotics to deal with the issues of future solar system exploration missions. The purpose of this Chair is to perform studies on such subjects as space debris management, autonomous navigation missions to the asteroids, maintaining satellites in orbit, space traffic management and the architecture of inhabited space stations on the surface of the Moon or Mars.


Protective Use of Regolith for Planetary and Lunar Exploration (PURPLE)

Yulia’s work today consists in characterising the particle-matter interactions between regolith and the radiations of Galactic Cosmic Rays and the Sun, and studying secondary emissions. Extra multilayer materials are proposed to reduce harmful exposure and protect astronauts on the Moon and on Mars. Through simulations and experiments with radioactive sources, habitat structures will be proposed as a result of this Ph.D.

He is a PhD student in the Department of Aerospace Vehicles Design and Control (DCAS) and Department of Mechanics, Structures and Materials (DMSM). The subject of his thesis is : Multidisciplinary design optimization of a reusable lunar vehicle. He is affiliated with Aerospace-Astronautics (AA) doctoral school. ISAE-SUPAERO welcomes its doctoral students in six ISAE-SUPAERO, ONERA teams and Clément Ader Institute, covering a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines related to aeronautics and space: aerodynamics and propulsion, structures and materials, embedded systems, networks and telecommunications, control and management of systems, human factors, electronics, signal.
