Created in 1909, SUPAERO is one of the oldest "Grande Ecole" inaeronautics and space.
Back in 1909, engineer officer Colonel Roche founded the Ecole Supérieured’Aéronautique et de Constructions in Paris. This became an Ecole Nationale in1930 and then went on to take the name of École Nationale Supérieure del’Aéronautique, then in 1972 that of École Nationale Supérieure del’Aéronautique et de l’Espace, better known simply as SUPAERO.

Since 1968

Since 1968, SUPAERO has been located at the Toulouse-Lespinet aerospacecomplex, at the heart of a scientific and industrial environment on a Europeanscale.
Huge research laboratories were set up at that time in the immediate vicinityand brought together under the name Centre d’Etudes et de Recherche de TOULOUSE(CERT). This centre, associated with the School, has become the Toulouse centrefor ONERA (Office national d'études et de recherches aérospatiales).

Since 1994

In 1994, SUPAERO became a public body (établissement public à caractèreadministratif) under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence governed by its ownBoard of Governors.
SUPAERO is also a school of application of the Ecole Polytechnique and since1975 has been entitled to award the corresponding doctoral diploma.
